Day 59: Dee’s StoryPosted: July 12, 2012
A story from Lorain County about services provided by St. Joseph’s Shelter –
Dee was a single mom who had a great job, but then became imprisoned by a mental illness.
After many years of struggling with her illness, all the while not realizing what was happening to her, she lost her job, her house and ended up living in St. Joseph’s shelter or on the street. Over the past several years, she would find work, then lose it due to her illness.
Eventually, she spoke with staff and liaisons from the Path program. She was connected with the mental health center and began to receive medication. She then was offered an apartment from the Public Housing Authority which she maintained through 8 hours of community service at 8th Street.
Recently Dee was recalled to her job at Ford Motor Company, where she is now employed full-time.
